All it needs is fish

As you may know, the plans for the Reservoir mean that it will no longer be stocked with Trout, as they cannot survive the high summer temperatures, so it will be stocked with Tench and Crucians. That won't happen for several months yet, and they are being supplied by the EA so we don't have full control over that.

Nonetheless, we are working hard to prepare the reservoir for its new role, and today we opened up another swim by removing the surrounding brush and pulling out the Reed-Mace, and trimming back the paths.

Not a bad job for our small but perfectly-formed work-party today, namely Andrew C, Andy W, Keith, Nigel and myself, and we rewarded ourselves with Nigel's coffee, Andrew's excellent homemade sausage rolls, and the usual doughnuts, plus plenty of idle gossip and dodgy anecdotes.

Meanwhile back at the river, the current storms are affecting the river level and will probably put paid to the very clear water we've had lately. Remember that the Trout season ends next Saturday, 31st, so worth taking a last trip to the river this week if you can manage it. Beats 1 and 2 will not be available after that, until next season, though if you have a Winter Ticket, you can carry on fly-fishing on beats 3,4,6,7 for Grayling, or if you're that way inclined you can indulge in Coarse fishing.

The monthly fly-tying sessions have started again on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, and there are still work parties throughout the Winter, so no need to go into hibernation. The AGM will be coming along towards the end of November too, so watch out for emails from our Chairman or Secretary.

If you haven't quite kept up to date, please submit any outstanding Catch Returns as I'll be producing the full year's stats for the AGM, and don't forget, we still need one even if you didn't catch anything.

I hope you've enjoyed the season, and if you have ideas for improvements, do submit them to our Chairman before the AGM, or maybe you can help implement them by joining a work-party.

Cheers

Peter B
