Reservoir Bogs

Looking at the current state of the river, and the forecast weather, I suspect a few more of you will be visiting the Reservoir before too long. Apart from the usual perils of getting flies stuck in trees, freezing to death, or falling in, there is another risk you need to be aware of. In the Summer, you can drive right down to the end of the Reservoir, as we did for a work-party a few weeks ago. After the recent rain, and for the foreseeable future, that area is probably now quite soft, muddy and possibly even downright boggy, so don't even try driving down there.

Not only will it make a mess of the field, and your car, but the simple embarrassment of having to ask the farmer to tow you out, is not now an option. There is no longer a tractor on the farm, so any arrangements for getting towed would be an awful lot more complicated, if even possible.

As you probably know, the Winter parking is usually on the grass along the side of the roadway down to the field, next to the horse paddock. Some people occasionally used to park on the hard standing outside the barn, opposite the parking area, but that barn is now in regular use as a vehicle workshop, so it is no longer permitted to park on the hard standing.

If the grass is too muddy or too wet to park on, then you can park on the roadway further down, outside the derelict barn, as the farm won't need vehicular access to the field during the Winter. Make sure you don't block anyone else in, if you do park there.

The Car Parking guidance has been updated on the Members Pages on the website.

Cheers
